Brandy Moore returns to St. Paul’s United on Saturday, May 17th for another incredible matinee performance! Backed by the wonderful musicianship of Joey Smith (jazz guitar) and Tony Genge (jazz organ with left-hand bass), Brandy will sing many favourite classics including At Last (Etta James), Teach Me Tonight (Amy Winehouse), What’s Goin’ On (Marvin Gaye), Smile (Nat King Cole), People Get Ready (Eva Cassidy), Fever (Peggy Lee), Ain’t No Sunshine (Bill Withers), Stormy Weather (Ella Fitzgerald), Summertime (Gershwin), and more!
BIOS:
Brandy Moore possesses a warm, expressive voice that moves seamlessly across genres, touching your heart with a tender lyric one moment, and igniting your soul with fiery grit the next. She has performed live in Canada, New York, Mexico and Portugal and has released five independent CD releases to date. Her most recent CD “Real Good Love” was recorded in Nashville with several industry veterans including guitarist George Marinelli (Bonnie Raitt, Bruce Hornsby & the Range) and Grammy-winning saxophonist Phil Kenzie (Paul McCartney, The Eagles). With an easy, inviting stage presence and an unmistakable love for singing, Brandy has become a local favourite since moving to Vancouver Island in late 2017.
Joey Smith is a bassist, guitarist and arranger who has spent the greater part of his life as a professional musician working with many unique and well-known talents. He toured with the Glenn Miller Orchestra from 1985 through 1987, completed a Masters in Jazz Studies and Contemporary Media from Eastman School of Music in 1990, and has been working as a faculty member at the Victoria Conservatory of Music since 2004. Joey currently performs with The Great American Song Book Trio w/ Louise Rose and Kelby MacNayr, vocalist Edie DaPonte, Clay Pigeons, Damian Graham, Tony Genge, CanUS, Dock Side Drive and many other local groups.
Tony Genge is a leading Canadian jazz pianist and jazz organist. He began his career as a keyboard player in Vancouver in the 1970s, later completed a Ph.D. in music, and was for many years Professor of Jazz Studies at St. Francis Xavier University in Nova Scotia. Today he maintains a busy performing career working with many local and international musicians. Over the years Tony has performed with leading jazz artists including Eddie ‘Lockjaw’ Davis, John Abercrombie, Randy Brecker, Paul Horn, Peter Erskin, P.J. Perry, Jeff Hamilton, Roberta Gamberini, and many others.
