What Are Green Burials?
Interest in green burials has grown considerably over the past two decades. Green burials can be a fulfilling alternative to conventional burial, especially for people mindful of life’s cyclical nature and looking for ways to minimize their impact on the local and global environment, including death.
Generally speaking, green burials are an environmentally sensitive practice in which the body is returned to the earth to decompose naturally and contribute to environmental renewal. A body is prepared for green burial without embalming and buried in a biodegradable shroud, simple container, or casket made from natural fibre, wicker, or sustainably harvested wood.
There are other kinds of Green Burials, including Aquamation and Terramation. Solidified remains, living reef memorials, and natural cemeteries are other possibilities available today. The funeral industry has changed significantly in the last twenty years. Come and learn about these and other advancements from Colin Benesch, a third-generation Funeral Director in a family-owned and operated business in Victoria that specializes in green burials called Earth’s Options.
