Sooke Philharmonic Fling! returns to Ed Macgregor Park Sunday July 7th at 2:30 pm, this annual free outdoor concert will be conducted by Michael Klazek. As in previous years the orchestra will perform a variety of musical favorites that range from Mozart to Over The Rainbow, and will close with the William Tell Overture, made famous as the theme music for the Lone Ranger. Also from the stage and screen, music from “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” will be featured.
This year’s returning guest artists are Paule Prefontaine and David Stewart, virtuoso violinists, who moved to Sooke five years ago from Bergen, Norway. They will present a movement of Mozart’s exquisite “Sinfonia Concertante” and the spirited Libertango by Piazzola. An original composition entitled “Sea Breeze on the Sooke Basin” by Sooke composer Brent Straughan will set the mood for a warm summer day.
Maestro Klazek, who is Associate Conductor of the SPO, is counting this his tenth and final Fling.
The concert is free, donations are encouraged and everyone is welcome. Audience members are invited to bring picnics, chairs or blankets, or they can just sit on the grass.
There will also be a concession with sweet treats put on by the Rotary Club of Sooke.
There will be a 50/50 draw and a raffle to win a one-night stay at the Prestige Hotel in Sooke, plus a draw for two lawn chairs donated by Village Foods. We thank these businesses for their donations!
In case of rain, the concert will take place in the Sooke Community Hall on Shields Road.
