Featuring acclaimed Germans soprano Dorothee Mields, this concert focuses on three musical friends in Johannes Voorhout’s painting Allegory of Friendship – Johann Reinken, Dietrich Buxtehude and Johann Thiele, whose music revitalised Hamburg as a center of music during the Thirty Year’s War. A free city sheltered from war, Hamburg became a refuge for many musicians and through its wealth established a vibrant musical scene. This concert’s program may encourage you to ‘step into’ the intimate scene being portrayed and relish music that was inspired by the stile nuovo of Italy. Fourth concert of Pacific Baroque Festival 2025.
With her enchantingly beautiful soprano voice, she brings the sound of this era back to life – no vibrato, yet extremely versatile, flawless in sound and immensely transformative. – GK, Crescendo, 2021
