Victoria, British Columbia – This event will showcase holistic and alternative death and grief care resources in the Victoria area. The public is invited to learn about:
- Getting your affairs in order so you don’t leave a mess for your people
- Planning for your medical and personal comfort wishes
- What a death doula does
- Supports for grievers and caregivers
- Eco-friendly funeral, casket, and burial options
- Home funerals and end-of-life rituals and ceremony
- Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD)
- End-of-life education, coaching, and planning services
- Psychedelics for end-of-life anxiety
- Bodywork, energy healing and spiritual support options for end-of-life
With over 20 exhibitors, there will be unique resources and locally-produced items for purchase, such as a kids’ storybook about medical assistance in dying, a perpetual deathday calendar, a card deck to support end-of-life conversations, a journal and card deck for living with chronic illness, binders for organizing your documents, empathy cards, grief bundles, and more.
The event is hosted by Victoria Holistic Death Care Community – a group of local people interested in alternative death and grief care education and supports in our community.
“Death is the only guarantee in life, and yet we talk about and plan for it the least of all the big transitions we experience. We are offering a safe space for people to share, learn and get resources to support a more conscious approach to end-of-life,” says organizer Karla Kerr, a holistic funeral director and death doula.
The event is on Sunday October 27 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm, at the Royal Canadian Legion, 411 Gorge Road East in Victoria. Admission is $5 per person at the door. Free parking.
