Canada’s top designers weigh in on questions from mature women about how to dress, what to wear, what to avoid and how to look their very best.
Each month, we’ll tackle a new question to help you stay stylish and feel great!
Q: Is there anything that we are too old to wear?
Simon Chang: “Avoid wearing neon colours (unless you’re a billboard). Don’t wear micro-mini skirts (too much show and tell). Forget anything sleeveless and don’t even think about skin-tight dresses (up tight shouldn’t be out of sight). And say no to low-cut v-neck tops (age spotting is a sport). These are all age-inappropriate.” simonchang.com
Jan Stimpson: “The great thing about getting older is that we also get wiser, more confident, and more self-assured. We don’t want to dress like teenagers; we want to dress the way we feel most beautiful. We want to look classy, but still contemporary. A cropped top looks fantastic over a draped top. A short skirt (even a mini!) looks modern and stylish over leggings with a tunic. It’s not about age – it’s about dressing your body and feeling comfortable. Enjoy looking as glamorous, conservative or playful as you feel in the moment.” symplithebest.com
Peter Nygard: “Yes, low-cut jeans, belly tops, very low-cut tops and items that are too sheer. Sometimes, arms should be covered, too. Don’t highlight your flaws – and we all have them! Learn to accent your best features and disguise your worst. Regardless of age, we all have areas that need to be underplayed, so draw eyes to your best assets.” nygard.com
