There are many ways we measure change in our lives. It’s in the colour of the leaves as a new season approaches. It’s the loose coins jingling in our coat pocket. It’s the redecorating of a room in our newly empty nest.
As we transition through the changes in our lives there comes a time when we think about our legacy plan and the kind of world we want to create for our families, grandchildren, and future generations. Perhaps we spend time reflecting on our community and the causes that mean the most to us.
The CKNW Kids’ Fund, with help from people like you, has been transforming the lives of children with complex health care needs across British Columbia for nearly 80 years.
We are incredibly thankful for legacy gifts. They provide a heartfelt lasting way to ensure kids continue to receive resources vital to their health and wellbeing.
Everyday we are inspired by remarkable kids who have benefitted from a charitable legacy gift to the CKNW Kids’ Fund.
Meet Braydon. At 18 years old, Braydon is excited to take on new employment opportunities after graduating high school. Diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy at an early age, he uses a wheelchair for mobility which is need of replacement. In working with his physiotherapist Braydon and his family selected a new power wheelchair that maneuvers well both indoors and outdoors. It also has a 2ft scissor lift that will give Braydon additional accessible reach. Thanks to a legacy gift, the CKNW Kids’ Fund assisted Braydon with funding for a new power wheelchair.
Valerie is a bright 8-year-old with a complex medical history. Within the last year she underwent heart and hip surgeries which required a prolonged hospital stay in the acute rehabilitation unit. Her recovery has been slowed by pain and seizures. Her medical team has suggested an adaptive tricycle for Valerie to use at home to help strengthen her muscles and build cardiovascular health. With thanks to legacy donors, Valerie is enjoying her new adaptive tricycle, safely riding alongside family and friends.
Meet 2-year-old Taylor. This past year he sustained a brain injury from prolonged cardiac arrest. He is dependant on caregivers for all activities and requires specialized medical equipment and positioning devices. To assist Taylor at home, a standing frame is crucial to support bone density while safely weight bearing in an upright position. Through a legacy gift, the CKNW Kids’ Fund assisted Taylor with funding for his standing frame.
This is the kind of meaningful change your legacy gift can bring. Together we envision a future where kids feel empowered to recognize their full potential as we strive to breakdown physical, emotional, social, and academic barriers.
Talk with your family about your legacy wishes. Discuss with your financial advisor, or lawyer to explore the range of giving options that work best for you.
