Croissants, Crêpes, and Maple Syrup

Croissants, Crêpes, and Maple Syrup

Bonjour! Merci! No, we’re not in France (the maple syrup gives it away).  If you are looking to get away but a long flight to Europe isn’t something you look forward to, why not a trip to Quebec with Collette’s Charming French Canada trip?

The charm of old town Montréal, the beauty of Quebec City, the majestic Montmorency Falls, and the natural beauty of Montebello will have you falling in love with this amazing country we call Canada all over again.

By touring with Collette, you are able to sit back and let them look after the details of travelling, accommodation and most of your meals, and be part of groups that will leave you with lasting friendships as well as memories of the beauty of Quebec.

Travelling with my husband and our group, with the Collette tour manager and bus driver who call this province home, have us planning another trip back sooner than later. There’s no better way to learn and see the history of our country, whether the natural beauty or the architecture of original homes built by settlers, to the impressive Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac or the largest log cabin in Montebello. The incredibly knowledgeable Tour Manager and the local guides provide you with so much information as well as local and personal stories, making bus drives something to look forward to.

And then there was the food! Breakfast at the hotels had everything you could want, including croissants, crêpes, and of course, maple syrup! At the sugar shack, it was explained that Quebecers use maple syrup on or in everything, nothing can escape. I am now a convert, with honey moving over in my cupboard for the treats brought home.

I sought out crêpes for almost every meal with fillings changing, as well as the way the crêpes themselves were presented: who knew you could batter and bread crêpes? My husband had those stuffed with mushrooms, beef, and sauce. I stuck more with either fruit and yummy French cream or veggies like asparagus. Good thing we did a lot of walking to counteract all the amazing food we ate. Bon appétit!

Collette’s ‘Charming French Canada’ tour takes visitors to see the natural and historic wonders of Quebec.

Concerned about the language? I quickly realized that, although I would start a conversation with bonjour, my bad French accent gave me away pretty quickly and everywhere we went, were greeted and spoken to in English. They appreciated the attempts but could tell pretty quickly tell those of us who do NOT have French as their first language, and always made us feel welcome.
